Service Times

Sundays

The Eucharist is celebrated on Sundays at 10am.  All are welcome.  There are hymns, prayers, an address and bible readings.  We believe that at this service Christ is present in the consecrated bread and wine and all who are Christians of whatever denomination or tradition are welcome to receive the sacrament.  Some people prefer not to receive the wine from the chalice.  The sacrament is present in either of the elements (bread or wine).  Simply return to your seat after receiving the bread.  We discourage the practice of dipping the consecrated bread in the chalice as research has shown this is more likely to spread infection.  If you need gluten free bread, please speak to the person who will welcome you at the door.

6.30pm Evening prayer – a quiet traditional service lasting under 30 minutes.  If you would prefer to join by Zoom email timgordon2707@gmail.com for a link

3rd Wednesday of the month 1130 Eucharist (Book of Common Prayer).  This service is followed by the Wednesday Circle Lunch.  Details can be found on the pew sheet for the Sunday before.  It’s helpful to book for lunch so the chefs know how many to cater for.  There is no need to book for the service.

For other service times and information, please refer to our calendar and pew sheet.

Eucharist

The main service at All Saints is on SUNDAY morning at 10.00am.

The service is a Eucharist (also called Holy Communion).  There are readings from the Scriptures and an opportunity to reflect on them.  Prayers are offered for the world and those in need and people share Christ’s peace together – usually by shaking hands.  Bread and wine are shared as Christians have done from the earliest days of the Church.  Here human beings meet with the grace and love of God in Jesus.  Here heaven and earth meet.  Here Christians find the strength and inspiration to minister to others.  We believe this is part of the process of being transformed into the people God calls all people to be.  Singing and music (traditional and contemporary) are part of the celebration along with simple reverence and actions that have been passed down through the centuries.  There are times of silence as well as joy.  A printed Order of Service is used.  Everyone who receives communion in every part of Christ’s Church is welcome to receive the consecrated bread and wine at All Saints.  Those not taking Communion may come forward for a prayer of blessing. The Little Saints for children meets in the Hall at the same time as the service each week.  They come into church towards the end to share what they have been doing.  After the service there are refreshments and time to chat.  The service lasts between 60 and 70 minutes.

Evening Prayer

SUNDAY EVENINGS at 6.30pm are quiet and reflective.   There are usually only a few people who come to this service.  They sit in the candlelit Baptistry area at the back of the church.   The service is a shortened form of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer.  There is a hymn and a psalm is said.   The bible reading is followed by a time of silence for reflection.  There are prayers for the coming week and for those in need, and silence for personal prayer.  There is someone to listen if you need to talk, or you are welcome to leave quietly if that is right for you.  At special times of the year, like Advent, Christmas or in Holy Week there may be a special service.  Details will be posted on this site.  Recently the group meeting has grown with people joining by Zoom.  Please email motherclair@allsaintshalebarns.org for a link if you would prefer to worship this way.

Morning Prayer

TUESDAY to THURSDAY there is daily prayer in Church at 8.30am  This service is based on the daily prayers that form the worship of monastic communities (also known as the Daily Office).  There are psalms, readings and prayers which follow a pattern set down by the worldwide Church.  Even if you cannot be there at 8.30am, you can know that prayers are being said in the parish for the community and for those in need.  Tuesday and Wednesday services are also live-streamed on Facebook.  Before the service, you might hear the Angelus rung.  The church bell rings three times in groups of three and then nine chimes.  If you would like to share in the readings and psalm for the day, you can find them on the Church of England web pages or you can download the Daily Prayer app on smartphone and tablet.  This service lasts about 15 to 20 minutes.

Tuesday Eucharist

On Tuesdays at 9.30am there is a Eucharist lasting around 30 minutes.  There is no singing at this service which is straightforward and meditative.  The Eucharist may also be celebrated on Festival days during the week.  A notice will appear in the church calendar.

There is a lot going on.  All are welcome at any time.  All Saints is a church for the whole parish, not only for those who come on Sundays.  There is always room.
